The Birdhouse was built in 1948 and lived in by its original owner, Lawrence Schlottman, until his death in 2002. Mr. Schlottman was locally known as the Birdman, and left his entire estate to a crow that regularly came around the house for food. This is, of course, the nucleus of the Birdhouse name.

Save the Birdhouse acquired the property in early 2003 from the Audubon Society of Portland. Though the home and property have deteriorated over the years, the house remains in mostly original condition. I intend to restore the 720 square foot home and prevent its demolition.
